Principal's Page

My name is Heather Burton, and I am honored and excited to serve as the principal of Edgewood Elementary School. 

I am thrilled to become part of the community and look forward to partnering with you to make this an exceptional year. I graduated in 2001 from Ball State University with my degree in Elementary Education and completed my master's degree in 2006 from Indiana University South Bend. I began my career as an elementary teacher and have had the privilege of teaching every grade level from kindergarten through sixth grade. Each grade has given me a unique perspective on how children develop academically, socially, and emotionally. 

As my career progressed, I have served as an interventionist and building math coach.These experiences led me into school leadership, where I served three years as an assistant principal and five years as an elementary principal. I believe that strong partnerships between families and schools are vital to student success.  

Beyond the school setting, I am a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where I enjoy serving my community and supporting initiatives that uplift communities. 

My commitment is to ensure that every child feels safe, valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. I encourage you to stay involved in your child's education by communicating with teachers, attending school events, volunteering when possible, and celebrating your child's successes.
